David Ortiz selfie with Obama was paid product placement
By Sarah Hofmann
Samsung facilitated the supposedly spur-of-the-moment photo that Boston Red Sox hitter David Ortiz snapped with President Barack Obama Tuesday as part of an endorsement deal Ortiz signed with the phone maker. Ortiz signed a deal with Samsung on Monday and when the Red Sox visited the White House Tuesday, he used a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 to take a picture of himself with the president, the Boston Globe reports.
Samsung then paid to promote the tweet on Twitter, saying “This photo was taken with a #GalaxyNote3.”
The picture has been retweeted 34,000 times.
