Wallingford schools aim to sell advertising at athletic fields

School officials are looking to begin selling advertising at the district’s athletic fields. Superintendent of Schools Salvatore Menzo met with members of the town’s Planning and Zoning Commission Monday night. The goal of the advertising, Menzo said, is to help pay for some of the costs associated with the athletic programs like new uniforms, maintenance of the fields or small capital projects like replacement of baseball dugouts.

The Board of Education is still assessing how much it can raise from advertising as well as the appropriate placement of the signs, he said. The advertising would be in the form of banners that could be put up and taken down after athletic contests rather than permanent signs, Menzo said. And the district would retain the right to refuse certain types of advertisements, he said.
