Cash-strapped schools hope lawmakers reconsider ads on school buses in 2015

Lawmakers killed a plan that would have allowed ads on school buses in Beech Grove, Franklin Township and Zionsville, but some hope to revive the measure next year. “We’re disappointed,” Beach Grove Schools Superintendent Paul Kaiser said, “but given further study we’re confident this could be put in place in the future.”

Bus advertising gives cash-strapped districts a way to raise revenue without increasing taxes. Kaiser said bus ads could have pumped as much as $50,000 into the transportation budget money that would have paid for field trips. “It was actually going to save parents money,” Kaiser said.
