Hillsboro School District to consider allowing corporate sponsorships, naming rights

Hillsboro School District is exploring the possibility of corporate sponsorships, such as long-term naming rights, to bring in extra money. Casey Waletich, director of safety and operations, presented the idea to the school board Tuesday night. The board voted in favor of further discussing the funding opportunity.

The benefits, Waletich said, include extra funding, capital improvements (such as equipment and facilities) and advertising revenue. But he said it’s important to consider the length of such agreements (10-20 years), the fact that a corporate name would be associated with Hillsboro schools and the increase in promotional material.
