Wallingford considers allowing advertisements on playing fields
By Eric Vo
WALLINGFORD — The Board of Education will work collaboratively with the Town Council to seek a change in Planning and Zoning regulations to allow for temporary advertising on outdoor playing fields.
Under the town’s zoning regulations, businesses cannot advertise on outdoor playing fields. The town’s present zoning regulations prohibit signage in residential zones, according to Town Councilor Craig Fishbein.
“All of our ballfields at the schools are in residential zones,” he explained, “so the Planning and Zoning Commission would have to look upon the idea favorable to modify the regulations to provide for such signage.”
But some members of the Town Council have expressed an interest in considering an exception for school fields and also creating an enterprise fund. If regulations are changed, canvas signs, similar to banners, could be put up at games and events. At the conclusion of the events, the signs would be taken down.
