Despite objections from a former director and chatter on the Marple Newtown Parents Facebook page, the school board voted unanimously, Nov. 26, to approve advertising at the high school football stadium, gym, fitness center, cafeteria, on televisions and the district website. The specific content is subject to approval by the board or its designee, with the final contract language subject to review and approval by the solicitor.
A growing number of school districts facing budget cuts are seeking advertising from local businesses. The physical ads are often seen as signs in the stadium or cafeteria, while those designed as banners or boxes on the website include clickable logos taking visitors to home pages.
