Joplin board to pursue sponsorship, naming proposal
By Emily Younker
JOPLIN, Mo. — The Joplin Board of Education plans to move forward with a proposal to allow sponsorship opportunities, advertising and naming rights around the school district.
Dawn Sticklen, a board member who has been researching the proposal, told the board at its monthly meeting Tuesday night that her recommendation is for the board to allow the sale and placement of age- and content-appropriate advertisements on district property and websites. This could generate new revenue for the school district and build a network of business partners, she said.
She said advertising opportunities for businesses exist naturally in places such as at sporting events and in newsletters. Naming opportunities will exist particularly with the new schools for classrooms, building wings, sporting fields or gymnasiums, she said. Administrators already have fielded inquiries about naming rights for the schools, she said.
