Chelmsford officials will wait to name school fields
By Grant Welker
CHELMSFORD—School officials are holding off on a decision on selling naming rights on new turf fields at the high school and McCarthy Middle School while discussions continue on how best to move forward seeking proposals. Deals with a local company or companies to add their names to the new fields are expected to help pay for them, installed before the fall sports season at a combined cost of $2.4 million.
But School Committee members said at a meeting last week they want to take more time to plan details of a request for proposals and consider how advertising might be added at the two fields. Officials are not considering on-field advertisements, for example, or signs along fencing or on the back of the high-school press box facing Route 3.
