Pequannock slowly moving forward with field advertising plan
By Steve Janoski
Although it’s taking longer than anticipated, the plan to put advertisements on the fences of the football complex at Pequannock Township High School (PTHS) is still inching forward, school officials said last week.
Former Board of Education (BOE) member Ken Hardaker had proposed the idea several years ago, and had estimated that such a program could bring in as much as $150,000 annually. However, trustee Matt Tengi, who now heads Hardaker’s old Finance, Facilities, and Athletics Committee, said at the board’s Aug. 19 meeting that an update from Superintendent Dr. Victor Hayek and Business Administrator Barbara Decker had shown that things were not going smoothly, and the plan would have to be altered. Hayek later explained that he and Decker had reached out to two companies specializing in placing advertising in schools, and found that they’d both had difficulties maintaining their programs in other districts.
