Hospitals discourage baby formula samples to promote breastfeeding
By Haley Hernandez
It used to be that mothers left the hospital with diaper bags and goodies to care for their new infants but some states are agreeing to stop giving baby formula samples. Trident Medical Center said it’s part of a baby friendly hospital initiative to promote breastfeeding.
“The big focus over the last few years is the healthy people initiative, World Health Organization and [Centers for Disease Control] have really strived to make the measures in hospitals more significant,” Director of Trident Women’s and Children’s hospital, Deona Ryan said.
Striving for healthy babies, this local hospital is on board with many around the country in banning baby formula samples to encourage breastfeeding.
