City will try to sell naming rights to Columbus Civic Center

How does Aflac Arena sound? Or how about TSYS Center? Or perhaps the slogan, “See you in Kia Arena”?

Those and more are the possibilities with the city saying Friday it is taking another shot at selling the naming rights to the Columbus Civic Center.

“Obviously, it’s a great opportunity for a company to extend their brand and create new marketing efforts,” said Civic Center Director Ross Horner. “But it’s great for arenas to have an influx of money and being able to attach themselves to a brand that’s already well known and people know what to expect.”

The city has put out a “request for proposals” to find a company—local or otherwise—willing and able to put up cold, hard cash in exchange for putting its name on the facade and other marketing and press materials connected to the entertainment venue, which opened 16 years ago.
