Hatboro-Horsham adopts policy allowing advertising in schools
By Kimberly Flanders
During Monday night’s meeting, the Hatboro-Horsham school board unanimously passed a policy that allows commercial advertisements and sponsorships in schools.
The policy states that the board can “permit selected commercial advertisements, activities or sponsorships when there is a specific benefit to the students or educational program.”
“We approved the policy, but there’s still a lot of steps until advertisements show up,” said Mark Opalisky, school board member.
The school district now has the ability to enter into agreements with commercial businesses and allow them to advertise on district owned property. They can now also entertain the idea of “naming” or “sponsored by” rights for district venues, including stadiums and events.
