Walt Disney Co.’s ABC News and Univision Communications Inc. agreed to create a 24-hour cable news channel that will primarily target the growing population of Hispanics in the U.S. but broadcast in English.
The new channel and an accompanying website—to be jointly owned by the two companies—will offer a blend of hard news and lifestyle programming. It is jumping into an already crowded space, dominated on cable television by News Corp.’s Fox News Channel, Time Warner Inc.’s CNN, and Comcast Corp.’s MSNBC, and on the Web by numerous news sites.
