Not the best sign, but . . .
The size of the dollar signs in elected officials’ eyes are almost as large as the lucrative mural advertisements draped from several South Florida buildings. On Thursday, Miami commissioners will consider an ordinance to allow three signature buildings to hang electronic “murals” on their exteriors, advertising that would raise revenue to help keep these institutions in operation.
It’s hard not to cringe at the thought of ads on the Miami Children’s Museum, the Knight Center and the Gusman theater — a grand old venue that’s on the National Register of Historic Places. Still, the thought of any of these places shutting down is more disturbing. City Commissioner Marc Sarnoff says that is the stark choice.
