McDonald's healthy-eating campaign sparks debate

McDonald’s, the health-food restaurant?
OK, that’s an overstatement of the new image the king of the fast-food industry is promoting for itself. But the hamburger/french fries giant clearly wants Americans to stop thinking of the company as a purveyor solely of high-fat, high-sugar, high-calorie foods.
“We’ve sold over 1 billion salads in the U.S.A.,” boasted Peter Samaha, a member of the executive board of the McDonald’s New York Tri-State Owners and Operators Association. “We sell as much chicken as beef. We offer so many low-calorie choices now.
