Maryville Schools: Synthetic turf ‘makes a whole lot of sense’

Officials with Maryville City Schools look at a high school football field 120 miles to the east in Johnson City and think the grass is greener on the other side.
To them, installing synthetic turf on Maryville High School’s football field will solve drainage problems and selling advertising on a large-screen television over the scoreboard smells like easy money, netting revenue and cost savings.
In the school district’s master plan, officials were scheduled to complete capital improvements to Maryville High School’s football field sometime between 2013 and 2015.
