Dow Chemical's Olympic Sponsorship Is Criticized

The Indian Olympic Association plans to ask Olympic organizers to remove Dow Chemical Co. as a sponsor of next year’s London games, protesting the company’s link with the Bhopal, India, industrial accident that killed and injured thousands in 1984.

India’s Olympic association plans to lobby for the ban on Dow Chemical’s sponsorship, and will decide at its two-day meeting beginning Thursday just how to convey its opposition to the London organizers, said V.K. Malhotra, acting president of the Indian group.

“It is unacceptable that such a tainted company is a sponsor in the Olympics,” Mr. Malhotra said.
