The Tri-Cities Fever open their 2008 season next week when they take on Stockton.

But, on the eve of their first game, the team is making some big news.

In fact, the Fever PR Director called it the most significant news the team has ever made.

Wednesday afternoon, the Fever announced that where they play will now be known as Gesa Field at the Toyota Center.

Gesa Credit Union signed a 2 year deal with the Fever to buy the naming rights to the field...terms of that deal were not disclosed.

This is Gesa’s 2nd big deal with a local sports team.

And credit union officials say their deal with the Dust Devils led to this one.

Gesa Credit Union President and CEO Christina Brown says, “Really, we were inspired by that, and started looking more closely then at the Fever and what they’re about and got excited about the opportunity to partner with them as well...there was no collaboration between the 2 different sports teams at all, this was completely independent.”

The Fever say this deal will make the games more fan-friendly, and that the team is working on new promotions and giveaways for the upcoming season.
