UConn Practice Facility: 'Your Name Here' For Right Price

STORRS It’s not an original idea. But if successful, it will literally put a new face on the newest piece of UConn’s athletic landscape. According to a university official, UConn is considering soliciting naming rights for its basketball practice facility, which is expected to cost between $35 million and $40 million and be ready in the spring.

IMG, hired by UConn to negotiate broadcast, marketing and advertising deals for its athletic department, would solicit corporations to seek interest in those rights. Naming rights for the practice facility would bring in less revenue than naming rights for a stadium or arena. Deals for college stadium naming rights generally top out at about $2 million annually, such as the 20-year deal Save Mart has with Fresno State University through 2023. Louisville has deals with Papa John’s pizza (Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium for football) and KFC (KFC Yum! basketball arena), which, combined, arn the school about $2 million a year.
